Haiming Jiang's work breaks down the barriers between lacquer and ceramics, transforming functional objects into vessels of art expression. After studying contemporary art and mural painting at the China Academy of Art, he pursued a master's degree in lacquer. Haiming now teaches at a university in Yixing, the ceramic capital of China, and investigates the fusion of lacquer with local ceramics. Through rigorous experimentation, he resolves critical technical obstacles, notably the adhesion of lacquer to ceramic surfaces, and continuously develops his distinctive aesthetic language. "The moment I touched the clay, I lost track of time and entered a state of selflessness. I fell in love with the material," he says. Beyond teaching, in 2013, Haiming established an art space to exhibit his works and provide advanced training for graduates.
