Yanhui Xu creates evocative contemporary works from a variety of materials including wire, recycled yarn, metal and silk. Through her family, she was introduced to textile craftsmanship at an early age, and went on to earn a degree in textile design from Donghua University and serving as a visiting scholar in Europe. Yanhui's inspiration for her creations constantly hovers between the microscopic world and the vast expanse of nature. "I have visited most of the world’s renowned botanical gardens, and from these I have drawn immense energy and replenishment," she shares. Taking the myriad textures of fibres and metals as her guiding light, Yanhui's making process is led by the natural temperament of materials. Beyond her own artistic creations, she actively teaches at Donghua University, sharing ideas with emerging talents in a journey of mutual growth.
