An Island of Light

This edition invites you to explore the fundamental relationship between light, materials and the human hand.

Embark upon a multi-sensory journey through a series of immersive installations staged in the historic buildings and grounds of Fondazione Giorgio Cini and discover hundreds of exquisitely crafted objects by artisans from around the world.

Artistic Director Es Devlin’s unique staging illuminates the creativity and talent of the artisans, while live demonstrations, participatory workshops, culinary craftsmanship and bespoke tours bring you even closer to craft.

The Artistic Director

Es Devlin

Acclaimed British artist and designer Es Devlin is one of the most luminous artists of her generation. Her monumental installations and kinetic performance sculptures have graced museums, galleries, theatres, opera houses and Olympic stadiums worldwide, while her Library of Light installation drew nearly 200,000 visitors to the Pinacoteca di Brera at Salon di Mobile in Milan in spring 2025.

About

The Michelangelo Foundation

The Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship is an international non-profit organisation that celebrates and preserves master craftsmanship and strengthens its connection to the worlds of design, hospitality and the wider arts. We want to help people rediscover the ability of the human hand to create, and support those doing it best: the exceptional contemporary master artisans using long-held traditions, skills and knowledge to make beautiful objects of lasting value. We are named after a beacon in this field, Michelangelo, a visionary artist and master artisan who embodied both creativity and craftsmanship at the very highest level of excellence.
