From local collaborations to global networks, shared creation is transforming craft into a catalyst for innovation and social change. Indian-born, Madrid-based fashion designer and social entrepreneur Kavita Parmar is a leader in this field. Through the IOU Project, the pioneering heritage textiles clothing brand she founded, Parmar has implemented an approach to fashion design that promotes artisanship, transparency and traceability, regenerative practices and a deeper connection between consumer and maker. By building close relationships with artisans and spearheading collaborative initiatives, she encourages more thoughtful and equitable ways of working, using craft to strengthen communities by bringing together artisans, knowledge and shared values. In this conversation, Parmar gives her perspective on the transformative potential of collaborative craft and discusses how community-based initiatives are fostering connection, empowering individuals and creating positive change in the world.
