Silent Song 14

Silent Song 14 was hand built from fabric and paper, then reinforced with fibreglass resin to create a rigid, self-supporting structure. The surface was decorated with stone and chalk gesso, white mother-of-pearl, silver leaf and touches of gold. Shoson Thatawakorn approached Es Devlin’s design, inspired by the Möbius loop, to create a continuous surface with no beginning, no end and no hierarchy between its two faces. The decoration is inspired by Thai classical music, which structures melody in seven phrasing arcs. The inner ribbon represents the concentrated source before the wave opens into light.
