14/09/2026 | 17/09/2026Exhibited in A ROOTED ASCENT
Botswanan artist Shakunona Parata practises a centuries-old basketry craft from Ngamiland, hand weaving finely cut palm leaves and grass using the traditional coil weaving technique. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Shakunona will interpret a design by Mabeo Studio, combining traditional weaving with foraged porcupine quills, semiprecious stones and hand carved wooden charms. Visitors will see how an ancestral basketry technique can be extended beyond conventional forms to create contemporary sculptural objects and express a sense of community through craft.
