Pietra dura: where stone becomes a second skin

28/08/2026 | 01/09/2026Exhibited in AN ATELIER ALIVE

Studio Lél is a stone marquetry atelier based in Peshawar, Pakistan, specialising in pietra dura and other historic decorative techniques through a contemporary lens. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Farhana Asad and her daughter Meherunnisa Asad will demonstrate stone marquetry by assembling carefully shaped stone pieces onto a metal substrate. Visitors will see up close how individual pieces come together to create a continuous surface, with stone acting as a second skin that moves beyond ornament to become part of the structure itself.
