Beyond her technical mastery, Shakunona has experimented with colours derived from unconventional plants and explored the use of industrial inks, continually questioning and testing how far her practice can evolve. Living in an environment marked by historical complexities, livelihood challenges and human-wildlife conflict, Shakunona's passion for weaving led her to a research and collaboration project with Mabeo Studio. She is also part of a community of women weavers, and her work has been collected through basketweaving initiatives and national cultural programmes. She is committed to investigating new pathways for basketweaving while thoughtfully responding to the challenges facing the tradition. Such an exploration requires an audience willing to engage with the process as it unfolds.
