Persimmon bowl

This tray with a persimmon as its motif was made from fine silver sheet. The persimmon form was raised and chased first, then the tray's curved surface was refined by hammering. Persimmon leaves are carved into the inner surface, with orange lacquer inlaid to bring out the outlines clearly. The rim and reverse are finished in the same orange lacquer, giving the piece a lively, warm presence.
