Week-long lithophane making workshop in Cheissoux

with Yaël Malignac & Guillaume Descoings | Cheissoux, France

Learn all the steps to make traditional lithophanes

In this five-day workshop with Yaël Malignac and Guillaume Descoings, you will learn to create traditional porcelain lithophanes. Each day involves a 7-hour session in which you will craft translucent wax, engrave it using specific tools, and cast your porcelain prints in a mould you created. By the end, you will independently craft porcelain lithophanes through traditional engraving and moulding. Covered skills include crafting translucent plates, selecting subjects based on contrasts, sourcing materials, transferring models, sculpting shadows, placing shapes and lines, refining contrasts, gradients, and lines, creating moulds, working with plaster, using porcelain slip, controlling slip characteristics, producing lithophane prints, and firing lithophanes. Please note that this workshop costs 600 EUR per person. Meals are not included in the price, but you will have the opportunity to book them during the registration process at a rate of 50 EUR for the duration of the course.
