Bucchero ceramics course in Perugia

with Giovanni Mengoni

Discover bucchero modelling

Bucchero is an ancient art of the pre-Roman era which belonged to the Etruscan tradition. In bucchero ceramics, the shape is more important than any decorative effect. Among the most common shapes is the amphora, typically small with a high neck, wide at the base and narrow at the top, with ribbon handles from shoulder to lip. In this workshop, participants will learn some of the secrets of bucchero from an Umbrian ceramics master. Discover the foundations of this art and understand the uniqueness of the craft as you learn to shape an object on a lathe. The unexpected surprise is understanding that it's possible to create a modern object with such an ancient technique.
