Technology, ecological responsibility, design, and craftsmanship in woodwork are the elements that characterise Dolomitisch Topographic Furniture, a Bolzano-based start-up. The innovative concept that has been developed involves researching 3D satellite data from mountains around the world and transforming the topographic sections into one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture. Several different generations and expertise converge in this workshop. Tables, benches, and coffee tables are among the prize pieces, alongside bespoke items, for which the client can choose a mountain, type of wood and finish.
Once the topographic section of the mountain is identified, its 3D representation is captured with a satellite laser scan, then carved onto a block of solid wood using a high-fidelity CNC pantograph. Highly skilled wood masters finalise the object by paying utmost attention to details, combining an innovative use of technology and the finest craftsmanship. Environmental responsibility is a key component of Dolomitisch's approach, with wood sourced from certified forests and from a short supply chain, and other materials sometimes being recovered from natural disasters.
