Portuguese basketry: the finishing touch

Portuguese studio Toino Abel creates contemporary baskets rooted in the basketry heritage of Coz-Alcobaça, using local materials, traditional weaving and hand sewing techniques. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, the artisans will reveal the final stages behind a basket. Woven soft-rush mats will be stitched together, leather components attached and individual details polished.
