Short Pillar; Tall Pillar

Exhibited in AN ATELIER ALIVE

Banana fibre, Paper, Acrylic

These sculptures were designed by Sumakshi Singh and crafted by Mohan Kumar Verma. Each was drawn, stencilled and hand cut from banana fibre paper using Sanjhi, a 16th-century sacred paper-cutting tradition from Mathura and Vrindavan in India. Monuments to impermanence, the pieces evoke how buildings and homes fade with time, leaving behind only pattern, trace and memory. Their perforated silhouettes hold both presence and absence.
