Weaving heritage from Villaines-les-Rochers

28/08/2026 | 01/09/2026Exhibited in A ROOTED ASCENT

Catherine and Christophe Romand practise the traditional basketry of Villaines-les-Rochers in France, an increasingly rare craft centred on the skilled weaving of wicker. Together, they preserve and develop the techniques of this longstanding local tradition. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Catherine and Christophe will reveal how wicker is woven and shaped by hand to create different forms. They will work on a Delvaux bag combining leather and wicker, alongside other pieces of traditional basketry.
