Introduction to the Raden-ori seashell weaving technique

Nestled in the scenic countryside of northern Kyoto, visitors to Kyoji Tamiya's atelier will learn about the unique history and creation of Raden-ori seashell weaving from the artisan himself. An inside look into the weaving process will reveal the intricacies of seashell carving and its application onto washi paper, which is then cut into thin strips and woven together with silk threads. Suitable for all audiences, this tour is the perfect opportunity to discover a novel weaving method and dive into the fascinating world of traditional Japanese crafts. Participants will also receive a small original gift from the atelier at the end of the tour. Reservation by email required minimum two weeks in advance.
