Introduction to monoprinting in Bristol

with Jemma Gunning

A fascinating method for unique prints

Mono-printing is often referred to as the painterly process of printmaking and was used by artists like Degas. It can often offer dramatic and expressive ways of image making through varying mark making and wiping techniques. In this day-long workshop you will explore the many ways a monotype can be created. Using a non-absorbent matrix to work from, you will manipulate oil-based inks to build and layer up an image. This will then be printed using an etching press, producing a unique print. By the end of the day you'll have learned how to make a trace, reductive and subtractive monotype.
