Introduction to intaglio printmaking in Bristol

with Jemma Gunning | Bristol, United Kingdom

The serendipity of printmaking

In this two-day workshop you will learn the breadth of intaglio printmaking, a printing process in which incised marks are cut, scratched, engraved or etched into a plate to produce ink-retaining channels. This form of printmaking often results in spontaneous and serendipitous moments. Working directly on copper plates with aquatints, sugar-lift and hard and soft ground waxes, you will be taught how to etch images in stages and layers. You will be given two plates to work on, exploring this distinctive printmaking methodology. Through hands-on advice and expert tips on inking and wiping techniques you will leave with a small edition of unique handmade prints. The course is ideal for beginners or the more experienced printmaker looking for a refresher or new methods of working.
