There are moments in life that can shape someone’s destiny. For Iwona Tamborska that moment was a sudden health issue. During her recovery time, she decided to leave her career as a landscape architect behind and pursue her dreams as an artisan. She considers herself a self-taught artist. "When I took my first steps into silversmithing, there were no schools or easy ways to learn. It was a long and devoted research through tears and failures. As I look at it now in retrospect, I think that learning through my mistakes gave me more space for creativity and a fresh look at this craft. Where I can connect traditional and modern techniques all together." Iwona’s works can now be admired at exhibitions and fairs worldwide.

- What does jewellery mean to you?
- It is a direct expression of my thoughts and soul. Each object I create has a hidden intention or emotion. I don’t want my jewellery to be trivial, but to narrate a story. I aim to find beauty in little things and translate it into a more visual language.
- What inspires you?
- My different educational backgrounds and interests. Whenever I find something that absorbs me, I want to learn more about it. For me, gaining new knowledge is also very inspiring in terms of my creativity.
- What does perfection mean to you?
- It must be the feeling that when I look at something, I enjoy and discover every little detail of it. There is a visual, but also a tactile pleasure. A desire to hold this object in your hands and keep it, as if it was a treasure.
- How do you achieve such diverse shapes?
- I'm driven by artistic expression. Therefore, apart from traditional jewellery techniques, I enrich my designs with metal clay technique or lost wax casting technique. It allows me to obtain small details and work with silver more in a manner of a sculptor.
