A showing of hands
Ceramic artist Sena Gu creates pieces that explore the human condition through a sustained meditation on nature, organic forms and human expression. After gaining a masters at the Royal College of Art in London, and subsequently attracting international recognition as Studio Gu, she now pursues a more material-driven artistic practice under her own name in Korea. In response to rapid technological advancements, Sena’s practice is interested in the singularity of human perception and touch. She investigates the tension between physical presence and mediated experience, redefining the role and meaning of the handmade within contemporary visual culture.
The Intersection series explores the boundary between physical reality and inner perception. The present self is rendered through meticulous depiction, while memory and imagination emerge as pure white porcelain. Inspired by the poetic act of hand shadow play, these works capture the moment when an illusion begins to take form. Fleeting gestures are suspended in ceramic, revealing the fragile threshold where reality and imagination meet, and where visible form and invisible experience coexist within human perception.
