Claire Dooley makes hand thrown functional stoneware and porcelain pieces. "Growing up with my cartographer father who hand drew maps, and my mother who spent much of her time in the garden, it is no surprise that I chose a material so closely related to the earth," she says. Claire's colours are drawn from the soft muted palette of the Irish landscape. "When I lived by the sea, I was painting with more blues. Now that I moved to the midlands, my colours have become more earthy," she explains. Despite her natural, wild inspirations, Claire's studio is immaculately tidy, reflecting a deep need for precision and a craftsperson’s respect for doing things correctly. This balance between order and genuineness informs her process and the work she creates.
