Discover palm leaf weaving

Ysaline Ophoff proposes workshops to introduce you to empreita de palma, a traditional basketweaving technique from the south of Portugal, using leaves from the local Palmeira-anã tree (Chamaerops humilis). In this 4-hour workshop, you will gain an understanding of this typical Algarvian craft. After introducing the history, the plant and its preparation process you will learn the different steps from braiding the sun dried leaves to sewing them into a little basket. Your basket is yours to take home, a souvenir in honour of a local and low-impact craft. Workshops can be conducted in Portuguese, Dutch, English or French. Please note that this course costs 70 EUR per person.
