Pigments, Lacquer, Wood
These sculptures by Tsutomu Iwasaki were each carved from a single block of wood using the ichiboku-zukuri technique. Traditional lacquer and pigments were applied to the surface to create a realistic effect. Depicting a persimmon with withered leaves and twigs atop the fruit, the works capture the passage of time and the changing seasons through exceptional textural depth.
