Lacquer, Ramie, Gold, Ash
This jar by Erke Gan was crafted using the tuo-tai lacquer technique, with layers of ramie cloth repeatedly saturated with lacquer and ancient tile ash over a temporary core. The interior was finished with gold leaf. Balancing a robust body with the lightness of a freshly picked lotus leaf-shaped lid, the piece conveys harmony, vitality and timeless elegance.
