These vessels by Alison Lousada were handbuilt from black stoneware, incorporating lava stone, volcanic glaze and iron spangles. The diverse and irregular surfaces result from unpredictable chemical reactions occurring in the kiln during firing. Exploring the relationship between form and surface, the pieces juxtapose familiar vessel shapes with fractured skins, whose raw edges emphasise fragility and impracticality.
