Splash of Ambrosia

This bowl by Andy DiPietro was sculpted in a wavy form with four small feet. The distinctive streaks in the maple wood are fungal discolorations caused by wood-boring ambrosia beetles. Capturing motion frozen in wood, the piece balances natural spontaneity with crafted control. Organic edges and dark inclusions suggest growth, imperfection and transformation from raw material into expressive form.
