Iris sanguinea

This is a sculpture of an iris made from deer antler and animal bone. Drawing on plants found in the surrounding environment as its motif, it renders leaves and flower petals with delicate detail, down to the finest veins. The material's distinctive tonal range, from white to off-white, is preserved and brought to the fore. An awareness of water's invisible movement through the interior of living things, and of moisture held within, is reflected in the forms.
