Black tower lotus I

This coil built clay sculpture has a cylindrical base and was burnished with a river stone and finished with a matte black glaze. The horned shape is a nod to the crescent moon and references horn iconographies staying constant as Nubia transitioned from an animist spirituality to Christianity and eventually Islam.
