Crescent lotus I
In this piece, a red clay sculpture with an elongated base is coil built, burnished with a river stone and fired unglazed. The horned shape is a nod to the crescent moon and references the horn iconographies staying constant as Nubia transitioned from an animist spirituality to Christianity and eventually Islam.
