
This piece is a clay sculpture with multiple blooming layers and is glazed in a matte black glaze. The repetitive horizontal layers capture the lotus’ movement upwards, while the choice of black glaze and a red clay body is an ode to the clay tones of ancient Kerma pottery in Sudanese Nubia.
