Suspended lotus II

This piece is a red clay sculpture with multiple layers and was coil built and fired unglazed. The repetitive horizontal layers found in the Lotus Series capture the lotus’ movement upwards, while the choice of black glaze and a red clay body is an ode to the clay tones of ancient Kerma pottery in Sudanese Nubia.
