Miniature painting of Arab Fantasia,1867 by Mariano Fortuny

Fátima Doña Molinero created this 1:12 scale miniature using black, white, ochre and gold as the main colours. She painted the replica on synthetic ivory. She notes that replicating the original brushstrokes, chromatic variety, and level of detail in such a small space was a particular challenge. She used digital modelling to recreate a period-appropriate frame design, which she then 3D printed and manually post-processed. The frame was finished with 23 carat gold leaf, applied using a traditional technique. The finished piece measures 6.4 x 8 cm.
