Leading Nishijin into the future

HOSOO is a Nishijin textile manufacturer founded in 1688 in Kyoto, now specialising in superior quality fabrics for interior design. The weaving of Nishijin textile is a sophisticated process requiring over 20 steps handled by highly skilled masters. In 2010, by applying their know-how, HOSOO developed an innovative loom that can weave a 150cm wide fabric, allowing the company to provide its textiles to wider markets such as fashion, art, science, and technology.

Actively involved in developing and promoting the craft of Nishijin textile, in 2019 HOSOO opened the HOSOO GALLERY in central Kyoto, where various exhibitions of contemporary craft, design and art are held two to three times a year. HOSOO's creations are on display at their flagship store located on the first floor. In the pursuit of innovation, HOSOO conducts research and development projects in collaboration with a range of creators and experts, aiming to incorporate advanced technologies into the Nishijin method, material and aesthetic.
