Artificial flower making

New York, NY, USA

Recommended by Closely Crafted

Flowers from New York City

M&S Schmalberg makes flowers by hand using original techniques and tools in the same way it has since 1916. At the workshop, experienced artisans cut, emboss and assemble buds, petals and leaves from endless colours and varieties of silk, velvet and leather. Clients range from couture houses and ballet companies to television shows and celebrities.

M&S Schmalberg was founded by brothers Morris and Sam Schmalberg who left Poland to pursue the American Dream, and is now owned and operated by third and fourth generation artisans Warren and Adam Brand. Warren’s father Harold tracked down his Schmalberg relatives in New York at the end of the Second World War and worked in and eventually bought his uncles’ business. “When I think about the future, I do not know if this will interest the younger generations, but my message is simply that this exists and it is here if you want it,” says Adam Brand.
