Lanificio Leo was founded in 1873 in Calabria's Sila region, long celebrated for its Merino wool. As the oldest active textile mill in Calabria, its historic machinery, dating from 1890 to 1965, remains both the beating heart of production and the centre of its museum. A key turning point comes in 2008 when Emilio Salvatore Leo, an architecture graduate, chose to revitalise the family heritage rather than move away. Believing that modernisation did not require replacing legacy machinery, he reimagined its potential through contemporary design and innovation.

Lanificio Leo creates distinct tapestries, blankets, rugs, throws, scarves and ponchos, blending centuries-old weaving traditions with contemporary aesthetics. The manufacturer collaborates on co-branded initatives and bespoke commisions through leveraging the skill of master artisans specialised in diverse textile techniques.
