  • Julie’s embroidery blends French and Latin American traditions
  • She teaches online courses that foster creativity and community
  • She collaborates on pieces with the luxury industry

Julie Romero's path to embroidery started as a personal passion before turning into a full-time practice. Trained at the prestigious École Lesage in Paris, she has contributed her savoir-faire to French haute couture Maisons. Today, Julie develops embroidered samples and prototypes for brands while leading immersive online courses. Drawing on broderie d’art and Lunéville techniques, she infuses her work with rich textures and vibrant influences rooted in her Latin American heritage and love of nature. "Embroidery is more than craftsmanship. It is almost a form of therapy and a moment to pause," Julie says. She invites others to experience her craft as a space for creativity, contemplation and connection.

Where do you find inspiration and ideas?
My deepest source of inspiration is my grandmother’s embroideries from Salvador. They are very simple, often made with just one stitch, yet extremely rich in colour. I love studying that freedom and reinterpreting it in a contemporary way.
How did embroidery become your practice?
As an adult, I came back to embroidery as a hobby when I was working in corporate management. I started documenting what I was learning on Facebook, which attracted an interested online community. It all began when I was eventually asked to start giving embroidery courses.
What role does social media play in your work?
Social media had a big impact on my practice. I live in a very small town, far from traditional craft networks, so social media was my way to connect with other embroiderers. My online community can offer a form of therapy, as it is a place to slow down. My ability to teach grew directly from that shared experience.
What does your slogan 'luxury slow embroidery' mean to you?
It is time we dedicated ourselves to creating something by hand, with carefully chosen materials. I try to work with local and French suppliers as much as possible. For example, I use silk from Au Vers à Soie, a supplier near where I live, as well as old French sequin makers. Everything is made to last.
