Giving body to questions of identity and culture

Born in the UK, raised in the Netherlands and shaped by his Indian heritage, Inderjeet Sandhu is a multidisciplinary artist whose work moves between sculpture, design and craft. He trained at the Royal College of Art, London, where he specialised in jewellery and metalwork. His work examines how objects carry histories of migration, identity and cultural exchange, transforming familiar materials into sculptural forms that question the narratives embedded within everyday life. Inderjeet's work has been recognised internationally through the AD x JSW Prize for Contemporary Craftsmanship (2025) and the Victoriefonds Cultuurprijs Visual Arts (2026). His work has been exhibited at PAD London, Delvis Unlimited (Milan), Æquo Gallery (Mumbai) and Stedelijk Museum (Alkmaar). He maintains long-term partnerships with glassmakers, silversmiths and stone artisans in the Netherlands. These exchanges bring together distinct traditions of making while preserving the integrity and authorship of each participant.

Collaboration is fundamental to his practice. Inderjeet works closely with specialist makers whose technical mastery becomes integral to the conceptual development of each project. Recent works include the collaboration with master artisan Kinkar Ghosh, who works with mother-of-pearl in West Bengal, India. The vessel co-presented at Homo Faber 2026 appears as if formed by the sea, poised between intention and chance. Made from mother-of-pearl shells, it takes shape through a slow process of accumulation. Fragments are selected for tone, translucency and curvature, and the form evolves with the material and the rhythm of the artisan’s hand. Differences in shell thickness, grain and reflectivity give the vessel its singular character.
