A voracious curiosity has characterised Gabriela Horvat since childhood, driving her to explore diverse creative fields including industrial design, photography, gastronomy and ceramics. As an interdisciplinary thinker, she thrives on discovering new connections in all that surrounds her. Gabriela was drawn to basketry, textiles and the inherent qualities of materials, which led her to begin exploring jewellery in 2002. She opened her workshop alongside her mother, visual artist Paula Dipierro, in 2009. "My practice centres on fusing art, fashion and craft through authentic woven jewellery," she explains. Gabriela’s versatile approach to craftsmanship has included various materials such as silk, sheep and llama wool, metals, semi-precious stones and the local chaguar fibre. Through coiling and wrapping techniques rooted in basketry and ceramics, Gabriela rescues ancestral making techniques to create visually impactful contemporary textile jewellery.
