Brothers Jerónimo and Manuel Seco-Velasco represent the fifth generation of the oldest goldsmith's workshop in Andalusia. Based in Seville, the workshop focuses on making pieces of 'arte sacro' (holy art), creating an indissoluble connection with the city's tradition of Semana Santa (Holy Week). The company's creations also grace several churches around Spain and abroad. On an artistic level, throughout the years the workshop has developed incredible expertise in decorative pieces and built relationships with interior designers, with whom they collaborate on the creation of one-of-a kind pieces. Every day they accept new challenges, feeling the weight of their reputation as pioneers in their field, whose work is held in such high regard.
INTERVIEW
Semana Santa is the climax of our devotion and respect for traditions. The streets witness the procession of brotherhoods. People wait for it all year and save in order to make donations to their church and brotherhood. During the year we make new pieces for Holy Week, and repair existing ones.
We design original items and make replicas of pieces in our archive (which comprises more than 17,000 patterns and countless drawings): crosses, urns, candelabras, crowns, daggers. We also work with designers on one-of-a-kind pieces for private homes, luxury hotels and restaurants.
We work with our hands, and follow the family tradition by delving into the archives and the techniques that have been used for decades. When it comes to decorative pieces we are like tailors. We innovate through our hands, updating traditional patterns and adapting them to contemporary tastes.
Jerónimo: The most special moment is when I see a finished piece finding its home; I almost have an emotional reaction. And I can tell you that the saddest moment is the day before I have to let my pieces go.
