Fondazione Bisazza

Mosaic making

Montecchio Maggiore, Italy

A tessellation of art, design and photography

Fondazione Bisazza is a private non-profit institution and museum dedicated to art, design, architecture and photography. It was established in Montecchio Maggiore, Vicenza in northern Italy, by Piero and Rossella Bisazza, whose father Renato founded the namesake mosaic making atelier in 1956. Since its inauguration in 2012, Fondazione Bisazza has housed a permanent collection, while also hosting temporary exhibitions and offering a rich calendar of events. The mission of this cultural institution is to interact and engage with other foundations and museums of design and architecture to launch innovative projects in Italy.

Silent Song 10, shown at Homo Faber 2026 in Venice, is crafted by master mosaicists who meticulously hand-cut and layered each tessera to follow the lines and curves of Es Devlin’s design, imparting depth and a sense of three-dimensionality. The piece features approximately 11,000 handmade glass mosaic tesserae in eight colours, obtained by kneading aventurine grain and enamels into molten glass. The tiny tiles are laid face-down on a temporary canvas, with the mosaic’s design revealed once it is turned up, installed on the panel and grouted. This piece celebrates the ancient process of artistic mosaic making through the luminous sheen and unique shade of every tile.
