Elene Ramishvili

Elo

Beadworker

Tbilisi, Georgia

Images of identity through the lens of myth

  • Elene reimagines myth through wearable art pieces
  • She has turned her personal path into visual poetry through beads
  • Self-taught, she came to her craft in 2000 after a first career in art history

Elene Ramishvili is a Georgian artisan and trained art historian with a background in archaeology and diplomacy. Her work blends symbolism with scholarly discipline, using beadwork, embroidery, and thread-based sculptural techniques to create wearable artworks. Each piece she makes, whether it be a ceremonial bracelet or a sculptural shoulder adornment, carries ancestral and mythical narratives. Elene uses materials ranging from Murano glass and galvanized soutache, to crystals and metal elements, which she carefully selects for their meaning. "My adornments are not decorative, they are intended to be tactile myths, built stitch by stitch with precision, intention and reverence," explains Elene.

Elene Ramishvili is an expert artisan: she began her career in 2000.

INTERVIEW

Creation is how I breathe. Even when I could not speak, my hands kept working. Art is not my refuge, it is my rhythm. It helps me remain whole in moments when the world around me is not.

I do not resist pain, instead I let it become form. When given space and respect, pain can turn quiet, and sometimes, almost gently, it becomes beauty. Not decorative, but meaningful. Certainly in my works I feel it conveys a meaningful presence.

I hope to stir up a quiet remembering, not necessarily of facts, but of essence. I hope my pieces awaken the part of us that knows who we are, even if this has been forgotten. My work speaks to that silence inside us, the one that always knew.

Each piece I make is built with intention in colour, material and form. My works are not ornaments but messages that carry a precise story, revealed only to those who pause long enough to listen.
