Malagasy raphia: tradition in new forms

18/09/2026 | 25/09/2026Exhibited in A ROOTED ASCENT

Made For A Woman transforms natural Malagasy raffia into unique creations using traditional techniques such as braiding, weaving, crochet, embroidery, knotting and macramé. Founded in Madagascar, the atelier brings the island’s artisanal heritage into contemporary fashion, interiors and collectible design. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, two Malagasy artisans will complete two pieces before the eyes of the public. Working entirely with raw raffia, one will demonstrate creative braiding and the other macramé, offering a firsthand view of the skills and gestures behind two distinct approaches to the same natural material.
