Carving an insect from ebony

10/09/2026 | 13/09/2026Exhibited in A ROOTED ASCENT

French artist Etienne Rayssac, appointed Maître d’Art Ornamental Sculptor, masters ornamental wood carving. Using traditional gouges, he creates highly detailed bas-reliefs and forms. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Etienne will carve a phasmid with its wings spread across an ebony plaque. He will sculpt the intricate details of the wings to create a lace-like effect, offering visitors an up-close view of the precision required for this delicate work.
