This sculpture by Kammy Wong was created from a 25-year-old withered elm tree, pruned according to the Lingnan Penjing tradition, then cleansed, cooked and dried. The wood was lacquered and hand painted using acrylic and underglaze appliqué, before final touches of luminous particles. Preserving a tree cultivated by the artist’s late father, the work carries memory across time and suggests the endurance of intention beyond physical form.
Kammy Wong inherited the craft of Lingnan Penjing from her late father, Master Wong Chau Shing, through Crafts on Peel’s Crafts Fellowship Programme.
