Soy Türkiye

Coppersmithing

Ümraniye, İstanbul, Türkiye

The strength of hammer-marked copper

At Soy Türkiye, more than 12 highly skilled coppersmiths, silversmiths and goldsmiths work together to create timeless cookware from pure copper and silver. The atelier's founder, Emir Ali Enç, learned coppersmithing in Aleppo from a master artisan who specialised in shaping cauldrons from a single sheet of copper. In 2010, Emir Ali returned to Istanbul and founded Soy Türkiye with the goal of preserving the ancestral coppersmithing techniques of Hindustan, Iran and the Ottoman Empire.

Soy Türkiye's professional frying pans, stew pots and poachers all feature traditional hammer-marking patterns, the result of the metalworking process that allows the material to become more resilient. The atelier produces every detail by hand with heritage techniques and tools. Artisans shape their cookware pieces by hand in a workshop that is purposefully detached from modern technology. “The team and I work hard on handcrafting the highest quality professional cookware. I love everything about my practice,” says Emir Ali.
