Based in Berlin, Goran Sidjimovski is a knitwear designer who discovered knitting while studying fashion design. He spent most of his studies in the knitting studio, constantly experimenting with different yarns and techniques. This passion led Goran to work at the fashion department of the machine manufacturer Stoll, developing fashion collections aimed at promoting the machines. "Without the pressure of selling garments, the design and development process had no creative limits and was strongly focused on experimentation and innovation," he says. Inspired by this design philosophy, Goran acquired his dream machine in 2022, opened his independent studio and launched his line, BOI, a platform through which he can fully devote himself to the endless possibilities of knitting.

INTERVIEW
Knitting is a complex craft that requires deep technical expertise. The process starts from scratch, with raw yarn that needs to be transformed into fabric. Beyond fashion and accessories, the craft plays a role in different fields such as interiors, sports, automotive design and medicine.
I specialise in machine knitting. In my studio practice, I use the latest machine generation that can combine knitting and weaving in a single sample. This is particularly useful for interior products that require more stability and compactness.
My inspiration often comes from materials and technical possibilities rather than mood boards or reference images. My relies on rigorous trial and error through extensive sampling. Once a texture or structure succeeds, the sample itself dictates its final form.
I enjoy all questions I get asked about my craft and my creations. I mostly work alone in the studio, which means I am involved in the entire process, from material choice, design, programming, knitting and finishing. I can talk endlessly about every aspect of the craft.
