Traditional wooden toy animals made in Germany

Founded in 1985 by Christian Werner, Reifentiere Werner is a workshop specialising in toy making. This cherished family business is run by father and son Christian and Andreas who are esteemed master craftsmen, dedicated to upholding tradition. In their meticulously curated workshop, animal figures are crafted on wooden lathes using spruce wood from the Austrian Alps. From pattern design to packaging, every step is carried out by a dedicated team of eight artisans. The cosy workshop in Seiffen offers a firsthand experience of centuries-old woodworking traditions upheld with passion and precision.

To bring the wooden animal figures to life, a piece of fresh spruce wood is rotated on a lathe and shaped by hand using various tools. Small slices are carefully removed with a knife and hammer, to reveal intricate animal figures. A woodworker carves the pieces a little further with a carving knife. After adding the tail and ears, each animal is painted with species-specific traits.
