A legacy of handcrafted joy

Wendt & Kühn, founded by Grete Wendt and Margarete Kühn in Grünhainichen in 1915, redefines the art of Erzgebirge's woodcraft. The two young graduates of the Royal Saxon School of Arts and Crafts in Dresden established a studio devoted to finely turned, delicately painted figures and music boxes. In 1923, Grete Wendt created three small angels with green wings marked by eleven white dots, which became the world-famous Grünhainichen Angels®.

With designer and painter Olly Wendt joining Wendt & Kühn in 1920, the manufacturer established its unmistakable aesthetic: rounded, hand turned forms assembled from several small components, and a colour palette filled with childlike poetry. Since its reprivatisation in 1990, around 170 artisans continue to craft each figure by hand, honouring more than a century of tradition. Today, a collection of around 400 angel figures Blossom Kinder, music boxes and contemporary designs found their homes with admirers around the globe.
