Dan Lam's sculptures present an otherworldly blend of vibrant forms that are at once repellent and alluring. She builds them entirely by hand through self-developed techniques, using foam, resin, silicone and acrylic. "I am inspired by the tension between attraction and discomfort, the body, nature and transformation," she says. Much of Dan's work begins with observing emotional reactions and translating those feelings into a physical form. Depending on the scale, a single piece can take anywhere from several days to weeks to complete. Whether the concept leads the choice of materials or vice versa, her process remains open to discovery. Her work evolves through experimentation with scale, colour and new sculptural forms.
