An Island of Light1- 30 September 2026
Henrique Oliveira UntitledSophia Bennett©Michelangelo Foundation

This bespoke installation by Henrique Oliveira was created using reclaimed plywood fragments recovered from construction sites in Brazil. The assembled elements form a sprawling body that emerges from the ground on either side of the entrance to A Rooted Ascent, extending across the façade like an invasive plant. Recalling the morphology of a trunk, a root system or a creeping vine, the piece appears suspended between natural growth and artificial construction. Its materiality evokes the plant world, while the sinuosity of its movement suggests an almost animal vitality. It inhabits a territory where distinctions between nature and artifact, growth and ruin, become unstable, a post-natural ecology in which discarded materials acquire a renewed form of life.
